COMPOST
BLANKETS
Compost
blankets are surface applications of designated high quality composts
on areas with erosive potential. Compost blankets can control erosion
on disturbed areas such as construction sites, state DOT development
projects, exposed stream banks, and disturbed or excavated land areas.
Blankets can be seeded for rapid vegetation.
2-4 weeks. with moderate watering.
Filter socks block sediment form drains and can be used for inlet protection. The filter socks are filled with compost which can be left on site once the sock is removed after erosion is stopped. The filter socks can also be used as ditch checks, which stop sediment runoff in ditches. Filter socks can be installed in lieu of silt fencing.
Compost filter berms are contoured runoff and erosion filtration methods. The berm allows runoff water to penetrate it and continue flow while filtering sediment and pollutants.
